This month, we’re reading Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin, a searing classic from 1956. One of the things I really want to do with the Lit With Charles Book Club is to consciously spotlight classic novels. I think book clubs can often be unduly influenced by ‘what’s hot right now’ – AKA the publishing schedules of major corporations. And, while I also like to stay abreast of new releases, I’m a classics guy at heart. So, after having done two timely new releases in a row (the excellent Orbital, and the thoroughly disappointing Greek Lessons), I wanted to get back to basics.
