Gold Medal in … Literature?
As a sports-fan, the fact that it’s an Olympic year is very exciting. As a (partially) French person, the fact that it’s being held in Paris is doubly s0. And as a lover of literature? … Well honestly I had assumed that was entirely unrelated. However, it turns out, there’s an unexpected crossover episode in my passions that I feel everybody needs to hear about.
Believe it or not, there was actually a time when the Olympic Games honoured not only the swift and the strong (and those who can break dance), but also the creative and the eloquent. Between 1912 and 1948 (that's 7 Games, for those keeping track), literature, painting, sculpture, music, and architecture were official Olympic categories. You what??
