Lost in Translation

Translation is a delicate, tricky and important art. Sometimes it can be almost impossible to preserve the exact nuances of speech, the subtle humour of the linguistic connotations, the precise rhythm of carefully selected words. And sometimes, you completely change everything and secretly write a whole new book with a totally different ending.

Dracula is as close to a universal classic as it’s possible to get. The story of Jonathan Harker, Lucy, Mina, Renfield, and the rest of that band of merry vampire slayers has seeped into the collective consciousness. Even if you haven’t read it, I’m sure you basically know the story.

Unless you’re Icelandic, that is. In which case, I will cut you a lot of slack.
